{"id":970,"date":"2011-03-30T08:53:54","date_gmt":"2011-03-30T08:53:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.northernexperiencewildlifetours.co.uk\/blog\/?p=970"},"modified":"2011-03-30T08:53:54","modified_gmt":"2011-03-30T08:53:54","slug":"marching-on","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.northernexperiencewildlifetours.co.uk\/blog\/index.php\/birdwatching\/marching-on","title":{"rendered":"Marching on"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As the start of the main season approaches, it&#8217;s been a busy few weeks for NEWT.\u00a0 I attended the latest <a href=\"http:\/\/www.netgainmcz.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Netgain <\/a>meeting, as this important part of the\u00a0North Sea Marine Conservation Zones project nears\u00a0its conclusion,\u00a0plans are developing for the Birdwatching Northumberland stand at this year&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.birdfair.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">British Birdwatching Fair<\/a>, Tourism fairs\/leaflet distribution days gave us a chance to catch up with a lot of the accommodation providers we work with, final preparations are in hand for a big group holiday we&#8217;re running in May and 2 smaller holidays in July, and days out with clients are increasing in frequency.<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday we had a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.northernexperiencewildlifetours.co.uk\/tours.php?id=11\" target=\"_blank\">Lindisfarne <\/a>Safari; <strong><em>Pale-bellied Brent Geese, Bar-tailed <\/em><\/strong>and\u00a0<strong><em>Black-tailed Godwits, Grey Plover, Wigeon, Teal, Golden Plover <\/em><\/strong>and\u00a0<strong><em>Dunlin<\/em><\/strong> were still around in good numbers, <strong><em>Skylarks <\/em><\/strong>and <strong><em>Meadow Pipits<\/em><\/strong> were singing literally everywhere that we walked, and <strong><em>Long-tailed Ducks<\/em><\/strong> were displaying their breeding finery.\u00a0 When discussing bird songs and calls with clients, I always mention <a href=\"http:\/\/www.soundapproach.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Sound Approach<\/a>, which I&#8217;ve always found to be such an inspirational book, so was\u00a0really pleased\u00a0to\u00a0learn that Brenda has a copy of the book, and an interest in how different people describe the same bird sounds.<\/p>\n<p>At the end of a really enjoyable trip, I made the long drive to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.otterburnmill.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">Otterburn Mill<\/a> for a meeting with the Chair&#8217;s of some of Northumberland&#8217;s other tourism associations.\u00a0 Some strong, and often conflicting, views were expressed but we all agreed that what is best for Northumberland is for us all to move in the same direction.
