{"id":734,"date":"2010-10-09T10:23:13","date_gmt":"2010-10-09T10:23:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.northernexperiencewildlifetours.co.uk\/blog\/?p=734"},"modified":"2010-10-09T10:23:13","modified_gmt":"2010-10-09T10:23:13","slug":"birds-in-the-mist","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.northernexperiencewildlifetours.co.uk\/blog\/index.php\/birdwatching\/birds-in-the-mist","title":{"rendered":"Birds in the mist"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With a good breeze coming from the east and misty drizzle on the coast, conditions have been looking good for a fall of migrants since yesterday morning.\u00a0 Some of the most exciting birdwatching available on the Northumberland coast happens in conditions like these&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>As we left the house last night to walk down to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theswanchoppington.co.uk\" target=\"_blank\">The Swan<\/a>, <strong><em>Redwings<\/em><\/strong> could be heard overhead and the distinctive call of a <strong><em>Yellow-browed Warbler<\/em><\/strong> gave us a heard-only garden tick.<\/p>\n<p>This morning we had to be out well before dawn to count <strong><em>Pink-footed Geese<\/em><\/strong> at East Chevington as part of the Icelandic Goose Census.\u00a0 The air over the dunes was filled with the calls of <strong><em>Redwings<\/em><\/strong>, <strong><em>Song Thrushes<\/em><\/strong>, <strong><em>Blackbirds<\/em><\/strong>, <strong><em>Chaffinches<\/em><\/strong>, <strong><em>Bramblings<\/em><\/strong> and <strong><em>Goldcrests<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0 Eventually, nearly 3000 geese departed their overnight roost and we drove to Cresswell, ready for our second survey of the day.\u00a0 This time it was our regular WeBS count.\u00a0 After a brisk walk\u00a0north along the beach of Druridge Bay\u00a0we arrived at East Chevington for the second time this morning, where there were flocks of <strong><em>Chaffinches<\/em><\/strong> and <strong><em>Goldcrests<\/em><\/strong> in the hedgerows and Sarah spotted a &#8216;ringtail&#8217;
