Bespoke Otter Safari 25\/11\/18"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I collected Colin and Tricia from Newbiggin ahead of a tour around <a href=\"http:\/\/www.northernexperiencewildlifetours.co.uk\/experiences\/tour\/12\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Druridge Bay and southeast Northumberland<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.northernexperiencewildlifetours.co.uk\/welcome\/tour\/1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">searching for Otters<\/a> and we were soon at our first site&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Little Grebes, Goldeneye<\/strong><\/em> and <em><strong>Cormorants<\/strong><\/em> were all fishing in water ruffled by a stiff easterly breeze and a <em><strong>Little Egret<\/strong><\/em> was trying to fish but constantly harrassed by a juvenile <em><strong>Mute Swan<\/strong><\/em> which wouldn&#8217;t let it settle in any one spot.\u00a0 <em><strong>Long-tailed Tits<\/strong><\/em> called incessantly as they made their way through the trees and we headed to our picnic spot&#8230;with a short detour to the NEWT office for me to change my boots after the sole of the pair I&#8217;d been wearing came loose as I tried to lift my foot from some very sticky mud at the bottom of a puddle!<\/p>\n<p>The afternoon was similar to recent days out; a stiff breeze and big flocks of birds.\u00a0 <em><strong>Teal,<\/strong><\/em> <em><strong>Wigeon, Lapwing, Golden Plover, Greylag, Canada<\/strong><\/em> and <em><strong>Pink-footed Geese<\/strong><\/em> and <em><strong>Starling<\/strong><\/em> all being tossed around on the wind and battling to keep their intended course.\u00a0 <em><strong>Scaup<\/strong><\/em> were alongside <em><strong>Tufted Duck<\/strong><\/em> and <em><strong>Dunlin, Curlew<\/strong><\/em> and <em><strong>Redshank<\/strong><\/em> were roosting together, facing into the breeze and taking shelter in the lee of a reedbed.\u00a0 With dusk encroaching on the gloomy daylight <em><strong>Roe Deer<\/strong><\/em> were running along field margins, small groups of <em><strong>Starlings<\/strong><\/em> coalesced into one extended murmuration that quickly went to roost with the ghostly apparition of a <em><strong>Barn Owl<\/strong><\/em> drifting across in front of us marking the point where the light faded to impenetrable.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I collected Colin and Tricia from Newbiggin ahead of a tour around Druridge Bay and southeast Northumberland searching for Otters and we were soon at our first site&#8230;
