Bespoke Cheviots Safari 08\/06\/17"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I have a bit of an obsession with the weather.\u00a0 It can have a real influence on the outcome of our trips and we always try to be as flexible as we possibly can.\u00a0 If the forecast is really poor we always offer clients the option of rescheduling; either for a different time on the same day, a different day close to the planned date (if they&#8217;re visiting the area) and a rescheduled date suitable for them if they&#8217;re local.\u00a0 I&#8217;d been watching the forecast for Thursday all week, and it had finally changed to be reasonable until mid-morning, so with an early start planned I set off to collect Malcolm, Judy and Andrew from Longframlington for a morning exploring the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.northernexperiencewildlifetours.co.uk\/experiences\/tour\/11\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cheviot Valleys<\/a>&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>As soon as I was on my way the weather deviated from forecast and the heavy drizzle was still present when I reached Longframlington.\u00a0 Then a break in the clouds and we had warm sunshine and blue skies before the rain started again as <em><strong>Pheasants<\/strong><\/em> and <em><strong>Red-legged Partridges<\/strong><\/em> scuttled across the road in front of the car and a <em><strong>Brown Hare<\/strong><\/em> sat motionless in the middle of a field.\u00a0 <em><strong>Reed Bunting, Greylag Goose<\/strong><\/em> and <em><strong>Canada Goose<\/strong><\/em>, the latter two with goslings in tow were unperturbed by the increasingly heavy rain as were the clouds of flying insects we were walking through.\u00a0 The cries of <em><strong>Curlew<\/strong><\/em> and <em><strong>Oystercatcher<\/strong><\/em> echoed around the valleys and <em><strong>rabbits<\/strong><\/em> sat still before eventually deciding they didn&#8217;t want to be observed and raced off.\u00a0 The riparian triumvirate of <em><strong>Grey Wagtail, Common Sandpiper<\/strong><\/em> and <em><strong>Dipper<\/strong><\/em> were all on mid-stream rocks as the buzzing trill of <em><strong>Lesser Redpoll<\/strong><\/em> was heard overhead, <em><strong>Tree Pipits<\/strong><\/em> called in display flight, a <em><strong>Whinchat<\/strong><\/em> perched on a fingerpost before flying to perch in the bracken, <em><strong>Song Thrush, Mistle Thrush<\/strong><\/em> and <em><strong>Blackbird<\/strong><\/em> were all by the roadside, a <em><strong>Spotted Flycatcher<\/strong><\/em> was sallying forth in increasingly heavy rain, the descending silvery cadence of a <em><strong>Willow Warbler<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0 drifted from the branches of a nearby birch, a <em><strong>Treecreeper<\/strong><\/em> put in a brief appearance as it scaled a vertiginous trunk with ease and <em><strong>Cuckoo<\/strong><\/em> and <em><strong>Chiffchaff<\/strong><\/em> were calling with persistent rhythmical eponymous onomatopeia.<\/p>\n<p>As the rain intensified we watched a <em><strong>Grey Heron<\/strong><\/em> as it stood motionless at the water&#8217;s edge and three well-grown juvenile <em><strong>Goosanders<\/strong><\/em> swam by it before taking flight and disappearing upstream and we finshed the morning with our picnic by the riverside.\u00a0 The rain doesn&#8217;t deter wildlife watchers \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I have a bit of an obsession with the weather.\u00a0 It can have a real influence on the outcome of our trips and we always try to be as flexible as we possibly can.\u00a0 If the forecast is really poor we always offer clients the option of rescheduling;
