Otter Safari 04\/02\/17"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I collected Roger and Jackie from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theswanchoppington.co.uk\" target=\"_blank\">The Swan<\/a> and then Edward and Isabel from Church Point and we headed off <a href=\"http:\/\/www.northernexperiencewildlifetours.co.uk\/welcome\/tour\/1\" target=\"_blank\">in search of Otters<\/a> around <a href=\"http:\/\/www.northernexperiencewildlifetours.co.uk\/experiences\/tour\/12\" target=\"_blank\">Druridge Bay<\/a> and southeast Northumberland.\u00a0 After watching <em><strong>Little Grebe, Cormorant<\/strong><\/em> and <em><strong>Goldeneye<\/strong><\/em> all fishing unmolested by sinuous predators we moved on to our second site for the day and the sky was filled with <em><strong>Pink-footed<\/strong><\/em> and <em><strong>Greylag Geese<\/strong><\/em> and a vocal <em><strong>White-fronted Goose<\/strong><\/em> flew by.\u00a0 <em><strong>Fulmars<\/strong><\/em> soared along the clifftops as we had our lunch and <em><strong>Pacific Diver<\/strong><\/em> added a touch of rare to the day&#8217;s proceedings.\u00a0 By mid-afternoon we were at the site where I suspected we needed to be at dusk&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>In the cold wind <em><strong>Starlings<\/strong><\/em> were going straight to roost without putting on a murmurating display and, as light faded and the reflection of the setting sun cast a beautiful glow on the water, Edward spotted an adult <em><strong>Otter<\/strong><\/em> \ud83d\ude42\u00a0 We watched it fishing as it gradually made it&#8217;s way towards a flock of <em><strong>Mallard, Tufted Duck, Coot, Wigeon<\/strong><\/em> and <em><strong>Teal<\/strong><\/em> and then it was lost from sight&#8230;before a flock of <em><strong>Lapwings<\/strong><\/em> taking panicked flight right in front of us betrayed the presence of an <em><strong>Otter<\/strong><\/em> out of the water!\u00a0 After a few minutes of unsuccessful chasing it went into the water and started feeding.\u00a0 This was a second <em><strong>Otter<\/strong><\/em> though, this time a cub that we lost sight of in the deepening gloom of dusk.\u00a0 With a fairly cloudless sky <em><strong>Venus, Mars<\/strong><\/em>, the <em><strong>Moon<\/strong><\/em> and <em><strong>Orion<\/strong><\/em> were all looking mightily impressive as we made our way back to the car after another successful <em><strong>Otter<\/strong><\/em> search \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I collected Roger and Jackie from The
