{"id":3532,"date":"2016-08-05T12:10:27","date_gmt":"2016-08-05T11:10:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.northernexperiencewildlifetours.co.uk\/blog\/?p=3532"},"modified":"2016-08-05T12:10:27","modified_gmt":"2016-08-05T11:10:27","slug":"can-you-remember-when-druridge-bay-safari-040816","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.northernexperiencewildlifetours.co.uk\/blog\/index.php\/northumberland\/druridge\/can-you-remember-when-druridge-bay-safari-040816","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;Can you remember when&#8230;&#8221;; Druridge Bay Safari 04\/08\/16"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday was a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.northernexperiencewildlifetours.co.uk\/experiences\/tour\/12\" target=\"_blank\">Druridge Bay Safari<\/a> for Andy, Jill and Cat, who&#8217;d been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.northernexperiencewildlifetours.co.uk\/blog\/index.php\/northumberland\/lindisfarne\/the-hunter-hunted-lindisfarne-safari-19022016\" target=\"_blank\">out with us in February<\/a>, and Gill, who&#8217;s a newcomer to NEWT, but has two more trips booked next week \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>Five <em><strong>Little Egret<\/strong><\/em> together between Amble and Warkworth was a good start to the day, while 15 juvenile <em><strong>Goosander<\/strong><\/em> formed a sleek and menacing flotilla along the river as mum watched sleepily from the river bank nearby.\u00a0 <em><strong>Curlew<\/strong><\/em> and <em><strong>Lapwing<\/strong><\/em> flew overhead and we continued down the coast where more <em><strong>Little Egret<\/strong><\/em> awaited.\u00a0 This was a really rare bird in Northumberland, not too long ago, so encountering them just about everywhere you look is quite odd.\u00a0 Waders were next on the list and an impressive selection at Cresswell included a stunning summer-plumaged <em><strong>Knot<\/strong><\/em>, 1 <em><strong>Ruff<\/strong><\/em>, 2 <em><strong>Common Sandpiper<\/strong><\/em>, 2 <em><strong>Little Stint<\/strong><\/em>, 5 <em><strong>Avocet<\/strong><\/em>, 14 <em><strong>Golden Plover<\/strong><\/em>, 24 <em><strong>Black-tailed Godwit<\/strong><\/em> and lots of <em><strong>Dunlin, Curlew, Lapwing<\/strong><\/em> and <em><strong>Oystercatcher<\/strong><\/em>.\u00a0 Alongside them were another 10 <em><strong>Little Egret<\/strong><\/em>! Len and (another) Gill were in the hide and Gill asked &#8220;Can you remember when&#8230;&#8221; \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>The end of the afternoon brought another wader for the list (<em><strong>Common Snipe<\/strong><\/em>), <em><strong>Yellow Wagtails<\/strong><\/em> and a <em><strong>Pied Wagtail<\/strong><\/em> dicing with death around the hooves of cattle and a close encounter with an adult and chick <em><strong>Great Crested Grebe<\/strong><\/em>.\u00a0 The chick&#8217;s incessant begging, even when it was apparently asleep with it&#8217;s head tucked under it&#8217;s wing, had the adult hunting constantly and effectively.
