{"id":3195,"date":"2015-12-18T10:12:47","date_gmt":"2015-12-18T09:12:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.northernexperiencewildlifetours.co.uk\/blog\/?p=3195"},"modified":"2015-12-18T10:12:47","modified_gmt":"2015-12-18T09:12:47","slug":"gloom-druridge-bay-safari-15122015","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.northernexperiencewildlifetours.co.uk\/blog\/index.php\/northumberland\/druridge\/gloom-druridge-bay-safari-15122015","title":{"rendered":"Gloom; Druridge Bay Safari 15\/12\/2015"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tuesday was a trip around <a href=\"http:\/\/www.northernexperiencewildlifetours.co.uk\/tours.php?id=2\" target=\"_blank\">Druridge Bay<\/a> and southeast Northumberland for Stephen, who&#8217;s been out with NEWT a few times already.<\/p>\n<p>As we headed north along the coast it seemed to be getting darker and by 11:00 the light levels were approaching those you would normally expect at dusk in mid-December.\u00a0 Even in the gloom there was plenty to see though; <em><strong>Shoveler, Teal, Wigeon, Mallard, Gadwall, Goldeneye, Tufted Duck<\/strong><\/em> and a gorgeous drake <em><strong>Pintail<\/strong><\/em> were all looking superb in breeding plumage, <em><strong>Common Snipe<\/strong><\/em> gave incredibly obliging views (although they probably thought they were well hidden in short reed stubble), <em><strong>Little Egret<\/strong><\/em> really shine in the gloom and the <em><strong>Long-billed Dowitcher<\/strong><\/em> at Cresswell occasionally lifted it&#8217;s head out of the water \ud83d\ude42\u00a0 A very vocal <em><strong>Twite<\/strong><\/em> was a lifer for Stephen, a mixed flock of <em><strong>Redwing<\/strong><\/em> and <em><strong>Fieldfare<\/strong><\/em> added another new species to his list and the high pitched yapping of thousands of <em><strong>Pink-footed Geese<\/strong><\/em> reached us before we spotted them dropping from high overhead.\u00a0 On a day when twilight seemed to be with us throughout, the birdwatching was still high quality \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tuesday was a trip around Druridge Bay and southeast Northumberland for Stephen, who&#8217;s been out with NEWT a few times already.
