Friday was Tony’s third, and final, day of bespoke birdwatching with NEWT and we headed north in similar weather to Thursday…<\/p>\n
Travelling north, Roe Deer<\/strong><\/em> seemed unsure which way to run across the road so dodged back and forth in front of us.\u00a0 On the rising tide, Little Egrets, Bar-tailed Godwits, Curlew, Dunlin, Redshank<\/strong><\/em> and Oystercatcher<\/strong><\/em> were hunting along the water’s edge, Pale-bellied Brent Geese<\/strong><\/em> were leapfrogging north, Pink-footed Geese<\/strong><\/em> flew south high overhead as the ‘choo-it’ calls of a Spotted Redshank<\/strong><\/em> and eerie moaning of Grey Seals<\/strong><\/em> cut through the tranquil air.\u00a0 A Common Buzzard<\/strong><\/em> was perched on a telegraph pole and the rising tide brought more birds towards us, Herring, Common, Black-headed, Great Black-backed<\/strong><\/em> and Lesser Black-backed Gulls<\/strong><\/em>, Ruff, Dunlin, Bar-tailed Godwit, Grey Plover, Wigeon, Goosander, Mallard<\/strong><\/em> and Teal<\/strong><\/em> were more obliging than distant swirling flocks of Lapwing<\/strong><\/em> and Barnacle Goose<\/strong><\/em> and a noisy tribe of Long-tailed Tits<\/strong><\/em> moved through the trees behind us.\u00a0 Lunch at Stag Rocks produced Common Eider, Guillemot, Gannet, Red-throated Diver, Turnstone, Purple Sandpiper<\/strong><\/em> and Shag<\/strong><\/em>, then Greenshank<\/strong><\/em> and Shoveler<\/strong><\/em> were soon added to the day list as we continued south down the coast.\u00a0 Panic amongst Herring Gulls<\/strong><\/em> and Cormorants<\/strong><\/em> revealed a Grey Seal<\/strong><\/em> swimming along the River Coquet and Great Crested Grebe<\/strong><\/em> and Goldeneye<\/strong><\/em> were the final new birds for Tony’s holiday as a juvenile Marsh Harrier<\/strong><\/em> flew by and Greylag<\/strong><\/em> and
