{"id":3055,"date":"2015-09-03T11:16:57","date_gmt":"2015-09-03T10:16:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.northernexperiencewildlifetours.co.uk\/blog\/?p=3055"},"modified":"2015-09-03T11:16:57","modified_gmt":"2015-09-03T10:16:57","slug":"autumn-passage-northumberland-coast-bespoke-birdwatching-01092015","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.northernexperiencewildlifetours.co.uk\/blog\/index.php\/northumberland\/druridge\/autumn-passage-northumberland-coast-bespoke-birdwatching-01092015","title":{"rendered":"Autumn passage; Northumberland Coast Bespoke Birdwatching 01\/09\/2015"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The start of the month brought returning clients, David and Mary who were out with us in 2009 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.northernexperiencewildlifetours.co.uk\/blog\/index.php\/birdwatching\/lightning-strikes-twice\" target=\"_blank\">and 2012<\/a> and who we see at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.birdfair.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bird Fair<\/a> each August.<\/p>\n<p>Starting at Newbiggin we set out south down the coast and soon found ourselves standing on a track with nine <em><strong>Blackbirds<\/strong><\/em> ahead of us, along with <em><strong>Chaffinches, Greenfinches, Goldfinches, Linnets<\/strong><\/em> and <em><strong>House Sparrows<\/strong><\/em>.\u00a0 <em><strong>Little Grebes<\/strong><\/em> slept and dived as young <em><strong>Grey Herons<\/strong><\/em> stalked along the water&#8217;s edge and demonstrated just how inelegant they are in flight &#8211; and especially in landing \ud83d\ude42\u00a0 A lunchtime stop overlooking the North Sea produced rafts of <em><strong>Eider, Fulmars<\/strong><\/em> arcing effortlessly over the waves and a <em><strong>Harbour Porpoise<\/strong><\/em> feeding just offshore as <em><strong>Dunlin, Ringed Plover<\/strong><\/em> and <em><strong>Turnstone<\/strong><\/em> explored the shoreline.\u00a0 The afternoon was dominated by waders; <em><strong>Black-tailed Godwit, Redshank, Lapwing, Ruff, Curlew, Common Sandpiper, Dunlin. Greenshank, Oystercatchers<\/strong><\/em> arriving for their high-tide roost stunning in beautiful light against a dark brooding sky and <em><strong>Common Snipe<\/strong><\/em> demonstrating their exceptional camouflage in amongst clumps of rush.\u00a0 <em><strong>Stonechats<\/strong><\/em> flicked their tails nervously from precarious perches on barbed wire and <em><strong>Goldfinches, Willow Warblers<\/strong><\/em> and <em><strong>Chiffchaffs<\/strong><\/em> swarmed in rank vegetation and nearby trees.<\/p>\n<p>See you at the Bird Fair next year \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The start of the month brought returning clients, David and Mary who were out with us in 2009 and 2012 and who we see at the Bird Fair each August.
