{"id":3029,"date":"2015-07-20T10:40:20","date_gmt":"2015-07-20T09:40:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.northernexperiencewildlifetours.co.uk\/blog\/?p=3029"},"modified":"2015-07-20T10:40:20","modified_gmt":"2015-07-20T09:40:20","slug":"seawatching-druridge-bay-mini-safari-16072015","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.northernexperiencewildlifetours.co.uk\/blog\/index.php\/northumberland\/druridge\/seawatching-druridge-bay-mini-safari-16072015","title":{"rendered":"Seawatching; Druridge Bay mini-safari 16\/07\/2015"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Thursday&#8217;s second mini-safari was around NEWT&#8217;s local patch of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.northernexperiencewildlifetours.co.uk\/tours.php?id=2\" target=\"_blank\">Druridge Bay<\/a> and southeast Northumberland.<\/p>\n<p>I arrived at Church Point to collect Mike, and we started with a scan of the sea in search of <em><strong>White-beaked Dolphin<\/strong><\/em>.\u00a0 It was a bit on the choppy side for observing cetaceans, but there was an obvious movement of seabirds heading north.\u00a0 Mike soon picked up two birds away to the south, and we watched as these adult <em><strong>Pomarine Skuas<\/strong><\/em> passed close by the point.\u00a0 <em><strong>Fulmars, Kittiwakes, Gannets, Great Skua<\/strong><\/em> and 200 <em><strong>Manx Shearwaters<\/strong><\/em> passed by in just over 90 minutes and three <em><strong>Arctic Skuas<\/strong><\/em> were harrassing <em><strong>terns<\/strong><\/em> in the bay.\u00a0 <em><strong>Common Scoter<\/strong><\/em> were also heading north and what had started as a search for <em><strong>Otters<\/strong><\/em>, with a scan of the sea for <em><strong>dolphins<\/strong><\/em>, had morphed into a fantastic seawatch with an accompaniment of summer-plumaged <em><strong>Turnstone<\/strong><\/em> and <em><strong>Golden Plover<\/strong><\/em> \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Thursday&#8217;s second mini-safari was around NEWT&#8217;s local patch of Druridge Bay and southeast Northumberland.
