Beginners Photography 13\/02\/2015"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I pulled into the car park at the mainland end of the Holy Island causeway, and Heather was already there for our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.northernexperiencewildlifetours.co.uk\/tours.php?id=4\" target=\"_blank\">Beginners Photography<\/a> &#8216;Winter Wildfowl&#8217; workshop.\u00a0 The first thing that struck me as I go out of the car was just how cold it was.\u00a0 With a bitingly cold cold wind racing across the exposed mudflats, it felt like the middle of the harshest winter.\u00a0 So, we started with a session in the car, checking camera settings and delving deep into the recesses of the camera menu.\u00a0 Then it was time to venture back out into the cold.\u00a0 <em><strong>Curlew, Redshank, Bar-tailed Godwit<\/strong><\/em> and <em><strong>Turnstone<\/strong><\/em> were eking out an existence in the wind-blasted landscape, a <em><strong>Little Egret<\/strong><\/em> still looked supremely elegant, with barely a feather ruffled out of place, and Heather&#8217;s attention was on a flock of <em><strong>Common Eider<\/strong><\/em> in the channel under the causeway.\u00a0 Our county bird is quite stunning, and makes a excellent photographic subject, so Heather was soon engrossed in capturing them whenever they turned their heads towards us and the slightly trickier task of catching one in the act of stretching and flapping it&#8217;s wings.\u00a0 Here&#8217;s one of my images of a drake <em><strong>Eider<\/strong><\/em>, from a warmer and less windy session a few years ago, showing just how beautiful they are.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.northernexperiencewildlifetours.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Eider3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2757\" src=\"https:\/\/www.northernexperiencewildlifetours.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Eider3-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"Common Eider,Somateria mollissima,Northumberland,beginners photography workshops,bird photography workshops,photography tuition,wildlife photography Northumberland,wildlife photography workshops Northumberland\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.northernexperiencewildlifetours.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Eider3-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.northernexperiencewildlifetours.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Eider3.jpg 999w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Our Beginner&#8217;s Photography Workshops are ideal if you&#8217;re just getting used to your camera, or want to improve a particular skill or technique, so give us a call on 01670 827465 to reserve your place.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I pulled into the car park at the mainland end of the Holy Island causeway, and Heather was already there for our Beginners Photography &#8216;Winter Wildfowl&#8217;
