{"id":2121,"date":"2013-12-03T11:01:30","date_gmt":"2013-12-03T10:01:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.northernexperiencewildlifetours.co.uk\/blog\/?p=2121"},"modified":"2013-12-03T11:01:30","modified_gmt":"2013-12-03T10:01:30","slug":"the-enchanting-isle-lindisfarne-safari-29112013","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.northernexperiencewildlifetours.co.uk\/blog\/index.php\/birdwatching\/the-enchanting-isle-lindisfarne-safari-29112013","title":{"rendered":"The enchanting isle; Lindisfarne Safari 29\/11\/2013"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After a planned 5 week break to recover from surgery I headed to <strong>Bamburgh<\/strong>, to collect Laura and Richard for a mini-Safari around <a href=\"http:\/\/www.northernexperiencewildlifetours.co.uk\/tours.php?id=11\" target=\"_blank\">Lindisfarne<\/a>, brimming over with enthusiasm to be back and doing what I love.<\/p>\n<p>Starting in the shadow of Bamburgh Castle, we watched <em><strong>Purple Sandpiper, Turnstone, Redshank <\/strong><\/em>and<strong> <\/strong><em><strong>Oystercatcher<\/strong><\/em> as they flew from wave-blasted rock to wave-blasted rock with <em><strong>Eiders<\/strong> <\/em>appearing and disappearing in the swell just beyond them.\u00a0 A flock of <em><strong>Twite<\/strong> <\/em>rose briefly from the weedy fields and, sitting on a ridge in adjacent field was the largest <em><strong>Peregrine<\/strong> <\/em>that I&#8217;ve ever seen.\u00a0 As we neared <strong>Holy Island<\/strong> a flock of <em><strong>Pale-bellied Brent Geese<\/strong><\/em> were making their way along the shoreline and <em><strong>Grey Plover, Ringed Plover <\/strong><\/em>and<strong> <\/strong><em><strong>Bar-tailed Godwit<\/strong><\/em> were exploring the recently uncovered mud as a <em><strong>Greenshank<\/strong> <\/em>slept with it&#8217;s head tucked between its wings.\u00a0 We were using two cars, as Laura and Richard thought it would make more sense then transferring their three dogs to my car.\u00a0 As we headed across the causeway a <em><strong>Merlin<\/strong> <\/em>chased a flock of <em><strong>Snow Buntings,<\/strong><\/em><strong> <\/strong>but they were up and over the dunes before the second car reached them \ud83d\ude41<\/p>\n<p>As daylight faded we enjoyed excellent &#8216;scope views of a crescent <strong>Venus<\/strong> in the western sky, and then I was on my way back down the coast to get ready for a full day trip on Saturday \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After a planned 5 week break to recover from surgery I headed to Bamburgh, to collect Laura and Richard for a mini-Safari around Lindisfarne, brimming over with enthusiasm to be back and doing what I love.
