{"id":1863,"date":"2013-03-25T08:39:41","date_gmt":"2013-03-25T07:39:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.northernexperiencewildlifetours.co.uk\/blog\/?p=1863"},"modified":"2013-03-25T08:39:41","modified_gmt":"2013-03-25T07:39:41","slug":"the-power-of-the-sea","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.northernexperiencewildlifetours.co.uk\/blog\/index.php\/northumberland\/the-power-of-the-sea","title":{"rendered":"The power of the sea"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Friday was a safari on the North Northumberland coast for Kathryn and Linda.\u00a0 As I collected them from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lindisfarneinn.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">Lindisfarne Inn<\/a>,   the biting wind carried a flurry of snow,   and I guessed this could well be a day for birdwatching from the warmth and comfort of the car.<\/p>\n<p>Over the next few hours we had close views of <em><strong>Bar-tailed Godwit,   Dunlin, Redshank <\/strong><\/em>and<strong> <\/strong><em><strong>Oystercatche<\/strong><\/em>r as they probed in the mud, seemingly oblivious to the breeze, a <em><strong>Peregrine<\/strong> <\/em>shot by, menace on pointed wings, and a <em><strong>Brown Hare<\/strong><\/em> sat majestically in the middle of a field.\u00a0 From the car park at Stag Rock we could see the MV <em>Danio<\/em>, still stranded near the Longstone lighthouse, as <em><strong>Common Scoter<\/strong><\/em> and <em><strong>Eider<\/strong> <\/em>rode up and over the impressive swell and <em><strong>Gannets<\/strong><\/em> battled into the breeze.\u00a0 <em><strong>Black-headed Gulls <\/strong><\/em>and<strong> <\/strong><em><strong>Rooks<\/strong><\/em> were almost perched on the car, and the South Low below the Holy Island Causeway offered impressive views of <em><strong>Eider<\/strong><\/em>, <em><strong>Long-tailed Duck <\/strong><\/em>and<strong> <\/strong><em><strong>Scaup.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Our lunch stop was the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bamburghcastlehotel.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bamburgh Castle Inn<\/a>, which gave us a good view of the extent of the swell rolling from the south east&#8230;and the approaching snow, which got to us just before we got back to the car \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Friday was a safari on the North Northumberland coast for Kathryn and Linda.\u00a0 As I collected them from the Lindisfarne Inn, the biting wind carried a flurry of snow, and I guessed this could well be a day for birdwatching from the warmth and comfort of the car.
