{"id":1201,"date":"2011-08-18T05:55:48","date_gmt":"2011-08-18T05:55:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.northernexperiencewildlifetours.co.uk\/blog\/?p=1201"},"modified":"2011-08-18T05:55:48","modified_gmt":"2011-08-18T05:55:48","slug":"rib-tickling","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.northernexperiencewildlifetours.co.uk\/blog\/index.php\/northumberland\/rib-tickling","title":{"rendered":"RIB-tickling"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tuesday&#8217;s weather forecast was indicating something quite remarkable; a spell of nice weather between showers that would coincide exactly with our evening trip on <em>Ocean Explorer<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s just what we got and, after an afternoon of heavy rain, we boarded the RIB in excellent weather just after 6pm.<\/p>\n<p>The excitement of a high-speed journey south along the Northumberland coast combined well with close observation of feeding flocks of <strong><em>Gannets, terns <\/em><\/strong>and <strong><em>gulls<\/em><\/strong>, including a breathtakingly beautiful adult <strong><em>Roseate Tern<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0 A <strong><em>Harbour Porpoise<\/em><\/strong> surfaced twice just off <strong>Dunstanburgh Castle<\/strong>, which looked stunning from our offshore position, and at least 3 <strong><em>Pomarine Skuas<\/em><\/strong> were busy brutalising the <strong><em>terns<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0 As planned, we finished\u00a0our trip around the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.northernexperiencewildlifetours.co.uk\/tours.php?id=14\" target=\"_blank\">Farne Islands<\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0 As curious <strong><em>Grey Seals<\/em><\/strong> came to have a closer look at all on board, the menacing clouds to the west obscured the sunset but we were treated to a spectacular moonrise\u00a0in compensation.<\/p>\n<p>The short journey back to the harbour produced excellent views of 2 adult <strong><em>Harbour Porpoises<\/em><\/strong> and a calf; an excellent way to end our evening.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ve got another 3hr RIB trip on Thursday 25th August, so <a href=\"http:\/\/www.northernexperiencewildlifetours.co.uk\/shop\/#4\" target=\"_blank\">click here<\/a> to book, or &#8216;phone 07908 119535 for more details.\u00a0 We&#8217;re waiting for your call, and looking forward to enjoying some of Northumberland&#8217;s wildlife with you.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tuesday&#8217;s weather forecast was indicating something quite remarkable; a spell of nice weather between showers that would coincide exactly with our evening trip on Ocean Explorer.
