{"id":1102,"date":"2011-06-17T13:45:25","date_gmt":"2011-06-17T13:45:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.northernexperiencewildlifetours.co.uk\/blog\/?p=1102"},"modified":"2011-06-17T10:53:51","modified_gmt":"2011-06-17T10:53:51","slug":"the-otter-unpredictability-of-wildlife","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.northernexperiencewildlifetours.co.uk\/blog\/index.php\/northumberland\/the-otter-unpredictability-of-wildlife","title":{"rendered":"The Otter unpredictability of wildlife"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After Tuesday&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.northernexperiencewildlifetours.co.uk\/tours.php?id=13\" target=\"_blank\">Otter Safari<\/a>, Wednesday brought another one, this time a Prestige Tour.<\/p>\n<p>Now, I know that you can never guarantee the wildlife that you&#8217;ll see on any day (not entirely true, I know&#8230;) but the sentence &#8220;what we really want is to photograph an <em><strong>Otter<\/strong><\/em>&#8221; adds a certain pressure to the proceedings \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>I collected Pete and Christine and we began our <em><strong>otter <\/strong><\/em>search of Druridge Bay and southeast Northumberland.\u00a0 After a near miss (wildfowl scattering in a pattern that we&#8217;ve come to recognise as strongly\u00a0indicative of the presence of <em><strong>otters<\/strong><\/em>), we settled by a mirror calm pool and waited.\u00a0 As we marvelled at the remarkable weather condition of bright sunshine and heavy rain, a heightened sense of alertness amongst the ducks increased my confidence that &#8216;mission accomplished&#8217; would be the\u00a0outcome of the trip.\u00a0 That confidence wasn&#8217;t misplaced and we enjoyed 25 minutes of an <em><strong>Otter <\/strong><\/em>twisting, turning and feeding.\u00a0 As a stunning sunset developed we waited to see if there would be a reappearance.\u00a0 There was, and with the cover of twilight the star of the show became more enterprising in it&#8217;s hunting technique; stealthily approaching ducks and their ducklings.\u00a0 After a couple of failed sorties it returned to feeding on small fish and another 30 minutes of action.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After Tuesday&#8217;s Otter Safari, Wednesday brought another one, this time a Prestige Tour.
