{"id":1093,"date":"2011-06-14T07:47:17","date_gmt":"2011-06-14T07:47:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.northernexperiencewildlifetours.co.uk\/blog\/?p=1093"},"modified":"2011-06-14T07:47:17","modified_gmt":"2011-06-14T07:47:17","slug":"a-matter-of-timing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.northernexperiencewildlifetours.co.uk\/blog\/index.php\/birdwatching\/a-matter-of-timing","title":{"rendered":"A matter of timing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We had 2 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.northernexperiencewildlifetours.co.uk\/tours.php?id=13\" target=\"_blank\">Otter Safaris<\/a> at the weekend, both accompanied by rain, but both very successful.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday I collected Lesley and Rab from their accommodation at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theswanchoppington.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Swan<\/a>, and the rain started just as we were getting into the car!\u00a0 An afternoon spent dodging the showers, and enjoying some excellent birdwatching around <a href=\"http:\/\/www.northernexperiencewildlifetours.co.uk\/tours.php?id=2\" target=\"_blank\">Druridge Bay<\/a>, eventually developed into a superb evening\u00a0when the showers cleared and some of our more elusive wildlife appeared as dusk approached;\u00a0 <em><strong>Roe Deer<\/strong><\/em>, <em><strong>Barn Owl<\/strong><\/em> and a very obliging <em><strong>Otter<\/strong><\/em> all entertained us before I returned 2 happy clients back to The Swan in time for last orders.<\/p>\n<p>Sunday\u00a0looked like being\u00a0a frustrating day; beautiful weather in the morning gave way to an increasing layer of gloomy cloud and by the time I collected Janice from home in Bedlington Station, and Ann and\u00a0Mark &amp;\u00a0Maxine and Pippa from Church Point, the heavens had opened.\u00a0 With local clients re-arrangement can be an option when the weather is poor, but we were on a run of 8 successful Otter Safaris in our last 10 so I was sure that the weather wouldn&#8217;t affect our chances.\u00a0 Dodging the showers wasn&#8217;t really an option, as breaks in the downpour were few and far between.\u00a0 With a completely overcast sky, it was likely to get dark much earlier than in recent days, so I juggled the timings that have been so successful this year.\u00a0 Optimism increased as a raft of <em><strong>Mallards<\/strong><\/em>, <em><strong>Tufted Ducks <\/strong><\/em>and\u00a0<em><strong>Gadwall<\/strong><\/em> all began to stare intently at the same reedbed&#8230;which an <em><strong>Otter <\/strong><\/em>came swimming out from!\u00a0 After 30 minutes of top-quality entertainment it vanished into a different reedbed before\u00a0returning to the\u00a0stage for\u00a0a 15 minute encore performance \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ve got a few places still available on an otter mini-safari next Tuesday, and we&#8217;ll be doing more over the next few months, so give us a call on 01670 827465 and book your place now before they&#8217;re all sold out.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We had 2 Otter Safaris at the weekend, both accompanied by rain, but both very successful.
