{"id":1008,"date":"2011-04-28T10:39:12","date_gmt":"2011-04-28T10:39:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.northernexperiencewildlifetours.co.uk\/blog\/?p=1008"},"modified":"2011-04-28T10:39:12","modified_gmt":"2011-04-28T10:39:12","slug":"2-days-on-lindisfarne","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.northernexperiencewildlifetours.co.uk\/blog\/index.php\/birdwatching\/2-days-on-lindisfarne","title":{"rendered":"2 days on Lindisfarne"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Well, a day and a half really&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>On Sunday I collected Helen from her parent&#8217;s house in Swarland and we crossed the causeway onto <a href=\"http:\/\/www.northernexperiencewildlifetours.co.uk\/tours.php?id=11\" target=\"_blank\">Holy Island<\/a>.\u00a0 A good walk around the island provided excellent views of <em><strong>Wheatears<\/strong><\/em>, displaying <em><strong>Lapwings<\/strong><\/em>, a cacophony of <em><strong>Grey Seals<\/strong><\/em> and a very\u00a0inquisitive <em><strong>Stoat<\/strong><\/em>.\u00a0 Helen spotted it and, once it ducked out of sight, I enticed it back out by pishing.\u00a0 <strong><em>Thrift<\/em><\/strong> and <strong><em>Bladder Campion<\/em><\/strong> were both in bloom and, once we were back on the mainland, we enjoyed a <strong><em>Whitethroat<\/em><\/strong> as it song-flighted from tree to tree.<\/p>\n<p>Our final port of call was Stag Rocks.\u00a0 A\u00a0scan seemed to reveal little other than a raft of <em><strong>Eiders<\/strong><\/em> but there, amongst the black-and-white &#8216;Cuddy Ducks&#8217; was a smaller dark bird; the vagrant <strong><em>Black Scoter<\/em><\/strong>, still there and still applying his transatlantic affections to a female <em><strong>Common Scoter<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Tuesday&#8217;s wildlife walk was slightly different.\u00a0 I met up with Jude and her parents at the Beal Road end car park and we drove across the causeway.\u00a0 48 hours after our previous Lindisfarne trip, and the <em><strong>Wheatears <\/strong><\/em>had moved on.\u00a0 A\u00a0recent arrival though, was a <strong><em>Sedge Warbler<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0 <strong><em>Skylarks<\/em><\/strong> provided a continuous backdrop to our walk and a pair of <em><strong>Roe Deer<\/strong><\/em> were bounding through the fields, leaping fences and apparently keeping an eye on us.\u00a0 4 hours passed quickly and it was time to head home&#8230;and get ready for\u00a0Wednesday&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.northernexperiencewildlifetours.co.uk\/tours.php?id=10\" target=\"_blank\">Kielder <\/a>Safari.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Well, a day and a half really&#8230;
